The short version: we hold one public dataset, and almost nothing about you.
What we store
One thing, mostly: Ofsted’s published registry of day nurseries and pre-schools in England. It’s the official gov.uk management-information file, loaded into our database because a map of 18,296 pins has to draw quickly. It contains no personal data about you.
If you make an account, we also store the things an account is for: your home pin, your favourites and your saved searches, plus the email address you signed up with. Nothing else. There is no profile, no advertising identifier and no behavioural history.
What we only ever fetch
When you open a nursery, Trundle asks Google for its rating and recent reviews, and Community Wolf Safety Intelligence for the neighbourhood score. None of it is ever written to our database.A copy sits in our server’s memory — up to 30 days for reviews, which is what Google’s terms allow, and about an hour for the neighbourhood score — and then it’s gone. The only thing that reaches our database is Google’s ID for the place, used as a join key: no ratings, no review text, no reviewer names, no photos.
The travel-time area drawn around your home is worked out by Mapbox when you ask for it and written down nowhere.
Your home pin and favourites
Signed out, your home pin and your filters never leave your phone — they live in your browser’s own storage and are never sent to us. Favourites and saved searches need an account, because they live in the database against your user; there is no signed-out copy of them.
Signed in, your home pin, your favourites and your saved searches follow you to another device. They are locked to your account in the database itself, by row-level security rules the database enforces on every single read and write — so no other user can read them, whatever the application code does. Everything else — the map, the filters, the grades, the reviews and the neighbourhood score — works signed out.
How we count visits
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and a small number of interactions — which buttons get tapped, which questions get opened. It sets no cookies, stores no IP address, and cannot follow you to another website. We never record where you put your home pin, what you searched for, or which nurseries you looked at.
That’s why there is no cookie banner on this site. The only cookie Trundle sets at all is the one that keeps you signed in, and it’s only set if you sign in.
Deleting your account
Email us at privacy@trundle.school and we’ll delete your account and everything attached to it — home pin, favourites, saved searches — and that’s the end of it. There are no backups of your data we keep on purpose and no copies sold to anyone, because there is no advertising in Trundle and nothing to sell.
